Now, he enjoys coaching Jääkarhu's Weightlifting program, as well as writing the weightlifting side of our competitor's programming.
Backstory
Layne grew up in the corn fields of Illinois. In his early days he competed in Wrestling through high school finishing at 3rd place in the Illinois State Championship. After high school, the sport of wrestling carried him into college at the University of Dubuque where he found CrossFit for the first time.
Building on his wrestling base Layne was able to excel in CrossFit going so far as an individual competitor at Regionals (Sanctionals? What are we calling it now?). Through CrossFit he found the joy of conducting the barbell to greater weights and then switched to Olympic Lifting and has proceeded to acheive high marks there as well finishing as the 2023 USAW National Champion (96kg).
