Motivation
Her aim is to meet every athlete exactly where they are, help them to move better and make sustainable progress in their journey while having a lot of fun along the way. No matter the athletes age, ability or individual goals, she understands every individual holds intrinsic value and is important. It’s one of her life’s greatest joys and blessings being able to invest into the lives of others.
Backstory
Jamie is one of the newest coaches that’s joined our staff here at CrossFit Jääkarhu. She was born in Columbus, Ohio but raised in Texas. She grew up playing a variety of sports, including more than 20 years of soccer. Jamie attended The University of the Incarnate Word, where she was on scholarship and a four year starter for their Women’s Division 2 Soccer Program. She played wherever her coach wanted her, but her favorite positions were forward and sweeper. After receiving her Bachelors in Business Administration (w/ a concentration in Sports Management), she moved to LA for 7.5 years before relocating to Austin in 2013. She has been here ever since. Coach Gunthorp first stepped into CrossFit Summer of 2015. Some good friends of hers had been nugging her for a few years to try it out as they thought she would enjoy it. Well, it didn’t take long for her to realize how much she enjoyed being back around a team-like atmosphere focused on community, and could modify her workouts to meet her where she was while continuing to make progress in her health and fitness journey. She got her CFL1 in January of 2017, at our original Karhu location in fact. Jamie co-founded, managed and coached at a local affiliate from 2017-2022 before transitioning into our Bear family.
