When first learning to snatch, it can be difficult to land the lift in a full depth squat. Coach Ricky Redus teaches the Tall Snatch, which helps athletes become comfortable with proper positioning and execution while receiving the full snatch.
- To execute the tall snatch, start at full extension, standing on your toes to mimic triple extension. With the bar sitting in your hip crease, pull yourself straight underneath the bar, landing in a full squat.
- Focus on a fast, aggressive turnover with body, keeping your elbows high in the pull to make sure the bar stays in close proximity to the body. A quick and solid foot replacement leads to a stable landing in the bottom of the lift.
