As an Austin native, I discovered my love for gymnastics at an early age. This passion resulted in a 13 year career in the sport, five Junior Olympic National Championship appearances, a Junior Olympic Uneven Bars title, 23 broken bones, 1 surgery, and a full scholarship to compete for the University of Georgia.
As my four year tenure as a ‘Gymdog’ came to a close with the conclusion of the 2013 NCAA National Championship, my gymnastics career came to an abrupt end (the norm is that gymnasts do not compete after college, we’re too old and broken). This left me wondering what was next, a “normal” life?
I decided to take time away from sports to let the mental and physical scars heal. A year later, I was introduced to CrossFit and felt a once dormant ember immediately spark back to life.
I found refuge in CrossFit Jääkarhu, where I’m able to not only share in the physical successes of my teammates, but I am able to act as a medium to enlighten those around us to see the unparalleled community and fellowship we have to offer.
My goal is to simply relay our realities to the outside world, being transparent and honest, showcasing how kick ass this family is. There’s no exaggeration needed.
